We were able to take our time this morning at breakfast. Ty ate noodles and eggs and potatoes and whatever else we put in front of him. He easily eats more than I do and asks for more. We stop him after two plates so he doesn't make himself sick. He really makes a mess when he eats too - Lily will cry foul for sure.
We packed up my backpack with everything in the room and left for the Bell Tower and the Drum Tower. After an invigorating taxi ride (Ty actually fell asleep) we got out and figured out their subway system. The sign says subway and there are escalators going down under the street but there are no trains. The subway is just a sidewalk under the street. I'm sure it saves many lives per year judging the traffic patterns and wild driving. The roundabouts here makes Dublin (Ohio) look like a bunch of amatures.
Each of the towers was a mini museum. They had live Traditional Chinese shows going on. We were lucky enough to walk in right before one started and it was a music show. Very nice - I always wondered how they made all the sounds in classical Chinese music and we saw it performed live. Ty was wide-eyed.
We took the subway to the other tower but stopped at the Starbucks for a break. Ty leaves a trail of crumbs and big wet spots wherever we go. We really left that Starbucks a mess - here they don't expect you to throw everything away, they come around and clean up the tables thank goodness.
We found another taxi back to our hotel - this guy took us the back way. Quicker, more efficient and more interesting.
We ate snacks waiting for Sherri to look at papers at 4pm and Ty slept through it. He didn't want to get in his bed but actually fell asleep sitting up. His eyes rolled and he fell over in mid-play. I made a nice spot on the bed and he was out.
We had dinner with Craig, Kelly, Luke, and Lily at a rather upscale Chinese restaurant within walking distance. They had a very nice glossy picture menu but I guess because of my shear size, everyone looked to me for suggestions of what's good. I asked if they did family style, "oh yes", so I told them to bring us their best - and it was great. The little ones ate all kinds of things I would have never guessed they would have tried. Ty is not afraid of spicy [yes!] - they brought a dish of chicken that made Chipotle taste like oatmeal. Everyone tried everything and it was good and fun.
TY comes out of his shell
After dinner he came over and sat on my lap and I was wiping his face and picking his nose and he was playing and wrestling with me. I started tickling him and he started laughing and carrying on.
Our two families wanted to meet for dessert at Starbucks and our waitress walked out to help us flag taxis down and communicate where we wanted to go. First family piles in and speeds off then our cab comes and the guy nods his head and we get in. He drives us over to a busy area and throws his hands up and stops. He makes a gesture like "it's around here somewhere" and prints out his ticket. It was late enough I didn't feel like going through the effort of finding another cab we just had him take us back. The driver thought we were crazy.
We got back to the room and Ty was extra playful and curious. Dad and I both got him laughing pretty hard and he was wrestling around pretty good. He picked up his play phone and looked at me and said, "Hello, hello" like I always said when he played with it. Tiffany was on Skype and I told him to say "hello mom" and he said it! He was showing off. The dimming light switch took a lot of his attention but it is in a dangerous place where he has to stretch over the nightstand so I got to tell him 'no' soon after the fun started.
We brushed our teeth but he wasn't happy about going to bed. He didn't cry, just whimpered for about 10min to see if I would rescue him. He fell asleep soon after that.
***When Jeff says that Ty leaves big wet spots it is from his water bottle.....
Craig, Kelly, Luke, and Lily are the family they are traveling with.
